RICOH Print Support Application

Why is 海角社区Print Support Application necessary?

Microsoft has announced that it will phase out support for third-party printer drivers, including 海角社区printer drivers, by 2027. Legacy printer drivers will be replaced by the Internet Protocol Printing (IPP) Class Driver*1 for printing.

This policy is reflected in the Windows 11 24H2 update of October 2024, which offers a new feature called Windows Protected Print Mode (WPP)*2 that enhances the security of driverless printing.

Microsoft is moving towards a driverless printing model with the generic Microsoft IPP Class Driver. The Print Support Application restores Printer vendor specific functionality.

FAQs related to the end of servicing by Microsoft for third-party printer drivers

A Third-party printer drivers are software programs made by printer companies, such as Ricoh, to control printers. These drivers enable a computer to communicate with the printer. When the user initiates a print job from the application software, the operating system sends instructions to the printer driver, which then processes the print data and drives the printer. In this way, your job is printed.

A IPP stands for Internet Printing Protocol. It allows users to print from printers supporting the protocol, via a network such as the Internet.
The Microsoft IPP Class Driver allows users to print without installing third-party drivers for specific printers*5.

Compared to printer-specific drivers, certain functions may not be available.

A Windows Protected Print Mode (WPP) is a feature designed to enhance the security of driverless printing. It came with the Windows 11 24H2 update released in October 2024.
WPP is disabled by default. If you enable WPP, installation of printer drivers is blocked, and printer drivers already installed are automatically deleted. Even if you disable it again, deleted drivers will not be restored, and you need to reinstall them manually.
To print with WPP enabled, you need to use the Microsoft IPP Class Driver. However, certain functions may not be available.
海角社区Print Support Application allows you to print with WPP enabled.

A 海角社区Print Support Application supports Windows on ARM. Use 海角社区Print Support Application to print from a Windows PC that has an ARM processor.

A 海角社区provides 海角社区Print Support Application for driverless printing and will also continue to service existing printer drivers after Microsoft's support for third-party printer drivers ends.

A Mopria is a set of standards advocated by the Mopria Alliance for printing from printers from different companies or brands. By installing the Mopria Print Service on an Android® device, you can easily print to a Mopria-certified printer. On a Windows device, you can print using printer drivers that come with the operating system, without having to install drivers for each printer.
For details, go to the Mopria Alliance website.
